Conference Structure

Sri Lanka Model United Nations is due to take flight in August 2008 with the proposed dates being from the 11th of August to the 13th of August. A total of 1200 delegates are expected to be present at this event making it the largest student run conference in the history of Sri Lanka.

This conference consist of 8 main committees which have been identified as the best committees for the students to engage in and which will give a clear understanding about the UN procedure and the role of a diplomat in the arena of diplomacy. The 8 committees are as follows:

  1. Security Council
  2. Economic and Social Council
  3. Commission on Status of Women
  4. The Concurrent General Assembly Plenary
  5. UNESCO
  6. Human Rights Commission
  7. World Heritage Committee
  8. Special Committee on Global Warming

A main feature of this conference is the diversity of the committees which deal with a variety of topics covering each and every aspect of the present times. This allows delegates to not only learn the fine art of convincing and debating but also familiarity of the different issues faced by the people, thus creating a sense of awareness among them.
